Riverdale Queer Watch season 5 episode 15: What’s new, pussycat?

Welcome to Riverdale Queer Watch, where we look out for the LGBTQ+ folks on The CW’s Riverdale each week. Whether it’s a snuff film or prom night, we’re watching.

Last week’s episode saw a very campy Cheryl overseeing a sudden mining operation thanks to the help of Archie, Kevin, and Fangs. Let’s dive into the events of this week’s episode, including the return of Josie McCoy and her gal pals Valerie and Melody.

Riverdale queer watch:  Harmony and Melody

This week’s episode primarily focused on the return of the Pussycats and what exactly had happened to Josie, Melody, and Valerie since we last saw them.

As a result, we got a very important queer update:  Melody has a girlfriend named Nancy! Unfortunately, we didn’t get to spend a lot of time with the couple, but many viewers (myself included) seemed to pick up on “The Return of the Pussycats”‘ backdoor pilot feel.

If that’s the case, hopefully, it’s not the last we’ll see of Melody and Nancy as she bid her girlfriend farewell before going on tour with Valerie and Josie.

Riverdale queer watch:  Welcome baby, Tony

It’s been a long wait, but Serpent Queen Toni Topaz finally made her return on this week’s episode! Toni first made a cameo appearance while helping Tabitha and Veronica sell Pop’s as a singing diner.

Toni’s returned pregnant (and a week overdue), so naturally, she went into labor during the Pussycats’ reunion concert. Toni (and Kevin and Fangs, apparently) are now officially parents to baby Tony (that won’t get confusing at all).

I personally can’t wait to see how Toni’s return shakes up the current storylines and to see what is going on with Cheryl.

It’s been far too long.
