Josie McCoy is back in Riverdale and while her and Pussycats may not have been together when the episode started, things certainly changed by the end. But the thing that made this episode pop for me wasn’t the music, the Pussycats, or the potential for a spin-off starring Josie and the Pussycats (there are plenty of other outlets for that). Instead, it was the fact that finally someone was calling out people like Cheryl, Betty, and Veronica for being miserable friends.

If you have been watching Riverdale since the beginning, then you already have an idea of how often Josie has been pushed to the side in this series. And even when they moved her over to Katy Keene, it wasn’t like she got the respect she deserved (the series was canceled and we hate that).

So when Josie had a chance to sit down and reminisce with Archie, Jughead, Betty, Veronica, and Cheryl, the results were amazing. Here’s the thing: Josie is no longer a pushover. She isn’t going to let other people push her into doing things they want. And it is about time.

But she also isn’t going to let her “friends” get away with the things they have done and said. None of them have been good friends to Josie or even to each other. And with the exception of Archie who was in the military, they really don’t have good excuses for why they are such crappy people to each other.

Josie makes it clear that the Riverdale crew makes poor friends

Josie is done being pushed around and treated badly. And watching her read the group for filth was everything we could have hoped for and more.

I highly doubt getting called out will change anything for these people, but it was nice to see them get put in their place. It would be even nicer if they actually changed and grew, but for now, I’ll take seeing Betty, Veronica, and Cheryl being reminded about how crappy they have been to other people.

Friendships have their challenges, but the Riverdale crew is more than just dealing with challenges, they are a true mess. They don’t actually listen to each other. They go off on their own without telling anyone else because they always think they know best. And at this point, they all need therapy.

Josie understands what it means to be an adult. And she isn’t letting Riverdale draw her back into the mess, which is so good to see. Now if only the rest of these people would get their lives together.

What did you think of Josie’s return on Riverdale? Do you think being called out will change anything for Betty, Veronica, or Cheryl? We want to know.
