Let’s explore some potential theories about The Matrix Resurrections

The Matrix Resurrections: Morpheus
The trailer showed us Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Morpheus but the big question is who is it? Since Laurence Fishburne was not asked back by the studio, which Morpheus is this? Well, there are a few theories that can go into this answer.
This could be a reincarnated Morpheus, plain and simple. Well, reincarnation isn’t plain or simple but you catch my drift. During the events of the canonical online roleplaying game The Matrix Online, it saw the assassination of Morpheus (though there were hints at him being alive). This would make sense as to why he looks different from the original character.
Another theory is that this version is actually the son of the original Morpheus. While not shown in the trailer, we’ve learned thanks to the casting list that Jada Pinkett Smith is back as the captain and former lover of Morpheus, Niobe. It would make a bit of sense as to why they would get together after he fulfilled his purpose of finding The One. However, it was not known in the game if they got back together. Still, this idea is looking to be a strong contender.
One thing I’m really looking forward to in this iteration is – why does he need help with that he wants Neo the “fly again”? Why was there a glimpse of him dressed up as an agent and another glimpse of him touching his own face while looking in the mirror shocked? Does that mean Morpheus needed to be woken up again, too? Or that his son was trapped in the Matrix and also had to be broken out?
I have so many questions but it honestly looks like his fashion sense has really evolved and yet remained totally the same. Snakeskin coat? Check. Red, billowy robe? Check. Small circular sunglasses that sit on the bridge of his nose and never moves? CHECK! No matter who it is, that fashion has never gone out of style for him.
