Who is at the heart of the Drew Crew on Nancy Drew?

When it comes to Nancy Drew on The CW, we have to admit that it is more than just the titular character that has us coming back for more. And thanks to the Drew Crew themselves, we know that there is always a storyline that we can sink our teeth into.

While you might think that Nancy Drew would be the heart of the Drew Crew (we totally named it after her after all), that isn’t really the case. Without the other members of her team/friend group, we wouldn’t even have a Drew Crew to begin with. And not only that, but while Nancy might be an amazing detective, she can’t do it all on her own (at least not in this take on the series).

So who exactly is the heart of the Drew Crew? Well, that is not nearly as cut and dry as one might think. And the reason for that is that each member of the team brings something special and uniquely them to the table.

Nancy Drew has brought together a dynamic group of characters, but who is the real heart of the Drew Crew?

Let’s take a look at what each member of Nancy Drew’s crew brings to the table:

• Ned Nickerson – At one point, Ned was Nancy’s boyfriend before the two broke up. But even with their romantic relationship in shambles, they have been able to remain friends. And as friends, Ned has often had Nancy’s back. While there have been times when he has doubted her and what she is doing, he has never actually walked away from his friendship with her. And as a member of the Drew Crew, he has been able to use his money (which he received as an inheritance) to do some good in his community, while also providing a place for his friends to gather when needed.
• Ace – Honestly, Ace might just be one of my favorite characters in the Drew Crew. He is friendly and charming, with an ability to look past a person’s faults. While he has been in trouble with the law because of his hacking abilities, he is also the guy who always shows up for his friends. And as we have seen in Season 2 of Nancy Drew, there is something between the two friends that has the potential to develop into love/romance. But at the end of the day, Ace’s gift in his ability to offer his support, while also being willing to keep secrets.
• Bess Marvin – While Bess might have found herself in trouble as well thanks to her thief-like ways, she also has a good heart. She wants to be loved and she wants to have a family. And with the Drew Crew, she has found a family that supports her and tries to keep her from destroying her life. It doesn’t always happen, but no matter what she always seems to show up where she is needed. At the very least when it comes to her friends, if not her romantic partners.
• George Fan – George might just be one of the more frustrating members of the Drew Crew. She is stubborn and pessimistic. But at the same time, she is loyal and determined to be the best big sister ever. She takes care of everyone but herself and has even protected the ghost that has possessed her. When it comes to being a member of the Drew Crew, there are times when she shows that she is just as committed to solving all of these mysteries as anyone else, but at the same time, she has no problem complaining every step of the way. At the end of the day, George always steps up and helps her friends. She has put her life on the line and even died because of them. And of course, if it wasn’t for her, most of them wouldn’t have a job, so there is that too.

Looking at these members of the Drew Crew who are not actually Nancy Drew, it might be hard to pick out one person who is the heart of the group. And while it may change at any given moment, I would have to say that whether she is willing or not, grouchy or just shy of personable, George might actually be the true heart of the Drew Crew.

Nancy might be our titular hero, but without her friends, she wouldn’t be nearly as much fun to watch in action.
