Supernatural prequel The Winchesters is in the works at The CW

You can’t keep the Winchesters down for long. Less than a year after Supernatural, the long-running CW drama about a pair of brothers saving people and hunting things, parked the Impala for good, the family may be headed back to our screens. Just maybe not the way we might have expected.
According to Deadline, a prequel series is in development at The CW that will focus on the epic love story of Sam and Dean’s parents, John and Mary Winchester. Called The Winchesters, the project is being executive produced by former Supernatural lead Jensen Ackles and his wife – also a regular Supernatural guest star – Daneel Ackles.
Deadline provided the following synopsis of the proposed new series.
"Before Sam and Dean, there was John and Mary. Told from the perspective of narrator Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles), The Winchesters is the epic, untold love story of how John met Mary and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world."
Before anyone asks, no one knows yet if there will be any involvement from either Jeffrey Dean Morgan or Samantha Smith, who played the Winchester parents on Supernatural.
“After Supernatural wrapped its 15th season, we knew it wasn’t over,” Ackles said in a statement. “Because like we say in the show, ‘nothing ever really ends, does it?’ When Danneel and I formed Chaos Machine Productions, we knew the first story we wanted to tell was the story of John and Mary Winchester, or rather the Supernatural origin story. I always felt like my character, Dean, would have wanted to know more about his parents’ relationship and how it came to be. So I love the thought of having him take us on this journey.”
If The Winchesters makes it to air, it will be the first successful spin-off of the original drama hat ran for a record-breaking 15 seasons. Though two other concepts received backdoor pilots during the series’ run – Bloodlines and Wayward Daughters – neither was picked up to series.
