When it comes to the different members of the Drew Crew, there is something about each of Nancy Drew’s friends that makes them vital to the show. But one character, in particular, is perhaps so complex and so fascinating that we can’t help but want to know more about what makes them tick. And of course, that character is none other than George Fan.

Since Nancy Drew began, we have watched as George went from being a manager at The Bayside Claw to a partial owner with her current boyfriend, Ned Nickerson. She is a big sister and in many ways, she helps to raise her sisters.

But beyond her relationship with her sisters and Ned, there are these unique aspects of her character that makes her a fascinating mix of grumpy pessimist and hardworking romantic. Perhaps the thing that stands out the most however, is that after dying she had to share her body with the spirit of Odette, a young woman whose life was torn away from her in order to bring power to the men who helped build Horseshoe Bay.

George Fan is the loveable grump of Nancy Drew’s friends

And while we liked George before she became possessed, she wasn’t a favorite. After all, she was always a little too grumpy and a little too harsh with her friends. But once we really got to know her and see her dealing with a vengeful soul that was not her own, we finally got to see why she is the way she is. Not only that, but with the help of her friends, their love for her, and even the things she learned from Odette, we also got to see her coming to terms with who she is and it lead to a softening in her personality.

While we can understand her moodiness when it comes to business and her employees (Nancy Drew, Bess Marvin, and Ace) not working, and even the lack of parenting that seems to require her to be a parent to her siblings, as we get to know George, we also see her sensitive side and her insecurities and worries. This is a woman who has the weight of the world on her shoulders, and the last thing she wants is to force others to take her burdens.

Thanks to the presence of Odette, we really see a softer side of George as she comes to terms with her life being shortened and the fact that she can’t always save the day. But it’s not just that, we also get to see her grow as a person into someone who can be a support to her friends.

George is never going to be the sunshine of the Drew Crew, but her solid presence and ability to be a strong backbone for the team is enough to leave us hoping that in Season 3, we get to see even more growth and softness.
