While “The Celestial Visitor” was a set up for Nancy Drew to introduce us to Tom Swift and set the stage for his spin-off, it did much more than that. In fact, this was an episode that really did a bit of a deep dive with a few characters, including Tom Swift (our possible spin-off lead) and Nancy Drew. But what really stuck out was the fact that we finally saw Ned and George talking about their relationship.

When the Drew Crew was facing certain death at the hands of the Agleaca, we saw different members of the group really connecting with each other and opening up. And while George and Ned certainly had a few moments where we got to see them connect on a deeper level, it never really felt like they were talking about what it means to be them in a relationship. Then Tom Swift showed up.

With the arrival of Tom Swift, not only did we finally get to see Ned opening up about being a black man in this tiny town in Maine, but we also saw George acknowledge that there are certain preconceived notions that people have about her because she is Asian American. It was like Tom’s arrival forced these two to actually talk to each other and listen.

Although the focus of “The Celestial Visitor” wasn’t really on Nancy Drew or any one member of the Drew Crew as a whole, the fact that we finally got a deeper insight into our characters thanks to their unexpected visitor was actually really important.

Nancy Drew finally did a deeper dive into Ned and George as people and as a couple

On top of George and Ned really talking about themselves and their insecurities and even the things they face because of who they are, we also got proof that these two are solid as a couple. After all, how often can you say that you are okay with your boyfriend kissing another man for a social media post?

If ever there was proof that Ned and George are good, it would have to be when George was good with Tom kissing Ned for social media as a way to truly come out to his father. That was one of those unexpected moments that just worked and even made sense to the story in its own way.

“The Celestial Visitor” offered us plenty to appreciate, from the arrival of Tom Swift on the scene to making Ryan aware of just what the reporter he has been getting cozy with knows, but it was Ned and George really coming together as a couple that had us loving this episode of Nancy Drew.

LeVar Burton joined the cast of the Nancy Drew spin-off and we can’t wait for more Barclay. light. Related Story
