2021 summer TV viewing guide: 14 must-see new and returning shows
By Shaun Stacy
Summer TV: Supergirl
Platform: The CW
Release Date: August 24
Cast: Melissa Benoist, Chyler Leigh, David Harewood, Katie McGrath, Jesse Rath, Nicole Maines, Azie Tesfai
Premise: Supergirl‘s spring finale ended with Kara (Benoist) finally being rescued from the Phantom Zone and reuniting with the Super Friends. While much of the first part of the season focused on how to get Kara back, the remaining episodes appear to be getting into the overall story arc for the show’s sixth and final season.
In the last episode, we saw that Nyxly (Peta Sergeant) had survived the explosion of the building that anchored the Phantom Zone to the Fortress of Solitude. Not only had she survive, but she was hitching a ride with the Super Friends back to their reality, so it stands to reason that she will be posing a threat in the near future.
We also saw that Nia (Maines) is still struggling to understand her Dreamer abilities, despite the fact that her powers are growing. A social media post that Maines shared not too long ago, may suggest that we will finally see the future Dreamer that Brainy is familiar with, who possibly helps Nia with her dream power. Additionally, we know that Kelly (Tesfai) will eventually suit up as the new Guardian, joining her girlfriend in the fight against evil.
With the series finale looming (probably dropping in October), we’re excited to see what kind of surprises are in store for the remaining 13 episodes of the series. Will we see the real return of Calista Flockhart’s Cat Grant? Are we in for a Danson wedding? Is Supercorp going to rise? Time will tell.
