Once again, Microsoft has announced the Xbox Live Gold games for the month of May. And much like every other month, they’re fairly standard with nothing too crazy.

But expecting anything more than that from this subscription service is probably expecting too much.

Below are the offerings for May 2021 and the dates they’re available to download:

  • Armello, May 1 to 31
  • Dungeons 3, May 16 to June 15
  • Lego Batman, May 1 to 15
  • Tropico 4, May 16-31

Xbox Live Gold May 2021 highlights

As always, you have four options this month, so let’s see what’s worth taking a deeper dive into!

First is Armello, a digital RPG strategy board game that released on the Xbox One in 2016. Play as an anthropomorphic animal and assume the role of a hero, you take part in a campaign against three other players to become the next king or queen of the world. It’s a good premise and the start is so good with its brilliant visuals and world-building. But it doesn’t go much farther than that, and there isn’t a lot of interaction with other characters.

Dungeons 3 is the sequel to Dungeons 2 (obviously) and combines dungeon building with real-time strategy elements. You control the Hand of Terror and build rooms, recruit minions, gather resources, construct traps, and above all, protect the Dungeonheart at the center of it all. If you’re a fan of tower defense games, this one is right up your alley this month!

What can really be said about Lego Batman? It’s in the same vein as most other LEGO games, including the Indiana Jones ones. One cool twist for this game is that you can also play as an array of Batman villains on many of the levels. Which is always just fun.

Last up is Tropico 4. A city management and political manipulation game, you play as El Presidente as you try to build up your new island civilization. It’s not an incredibly difficult game to play, but if you really enjoy building cities and grooming relationships with NPCs (which in this case are various nations), it’s a pretty fun time.
