Xbox Live Gold is one of the few subscription services that seems to just keep chugging along, even with the attempted price spike a few months ago.

“Chugging along” is a pretty apt description, too, as the free games for the last few months haven’t been super stellar. And unfortunately, April doesn’t really change that either.

Below are the offerings for April 2021 and the dates they’re available to download:

  • Vikings: Wolves of Midgard, April 1 to 30
  • Truck Racing Championship, April 16 to May 15
  • Dark Void, April 1 to 15
  • Hard Corps: Uprising, April 16 to 30

Xbox Live April 2021 new addition highlights

Let’s go through all of the free games for April and see what’s worth your time!

First up is Vikings: Wolves of Midgard. It’s an action RPG that released in 2017 that lets you go head to head with the beats of Ragnarok. You also get to pick your weapon of choice, which helps cater the game to your playstyle, too. If you’re a fan of Diablo or Path of Exile, this one is worth checking out.

Next is Truck Racing Championship, the standard racing offering for the month. There’s not much to this game. You get to race semi-trucks across 14 different circuits, and you have 45 different trucks to pick from. Again, if you like racing, it’s something new to try if you haven’t played it before.

Dark Void released in 2010 with mixed reviews. Most people agree that the flying portions of the game are the coolest and most fun, but everything else feels like a retread of other, better games and the story is a little too confusing to follow. If you’re in the mood for a sci-fi game this month, you can give it a try and see how you feel about it.

Last for this month is Hard Corps: Uprising, a retro run-and-gun 2D action title that’s in the same vein as Contra. You also have two different modes to play: the grueling trenches of Arcade mode or RISING mode, where you have a life bar and point system to help you upgrade and build up your character. If you’re in the mood for something a little more retro that’s going to challenge your old-school gaming skills, make this one your top choice for April.
