In largely unsurprising, but still happily official news: The CW has renewed Superman & Lois for a second season. The announcement came after the drama, the latest addition to the network’s roster of superhero properties, had aired just a single episode. This makes it one of the fastest freshman renewals in The CW’s history, going all the way back to the premiere of The Flash, which landed a second season just two weeks after its 2014 premiere.

The series follows the story of the iconic DC Comics couple Superman and Lois Lane, albeit a version of them we’ve never seen on television or in the movies before. In Superman & LoisClark Kent and Lois Lane now married with two teenage sons. Following a family tragedy, the Kents move back to Smallville in search of a quieter, more deliberate life, though that goal is often thwarted by the fact that Clark is, after all, Superman.

Oh, and one of their teenage boys may have inherited their dad’s superpowers. (No big deal, right?)

“The phenomenal multiplatform debut of Superman & Lois, which delivered for us in a big way on both a linear and streaming basis, is a testament to the creativity, hard work, and dedication of the talented people who worked tirelessly in front of and behind the camera, especially in this challenging environment,”  CW president Mark Pedowitz in a statement.

“We are thrilled to now have two brand-new bonafide hits in Superman and Walker, both of which have been renewed for next season along with 11 other of our shows, further positioning us for continued strength and stability for next season.”

The series premiere registered fairly impressive ratings, with 1.7 million viewers turning in to the supersized first episode and hitting a two-year timeslot high.
