Malia Obama lands writing job on Donald Glover’s new Amazon series
Malia Obama, the oldest of former President Barack Obama’s daughters, has landed a huge entertainment gig — and it involves Atlanta star and the man behind Childish Gambino, Donald Glover.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Malia has been recruited as a writer for Glover’s new Amazon series Hive. The show is said to be about a Beyoncé-like figure. Glover is said to have signed an eight-figure deal with Amazon. Through that deal, he will executive produce many projects for Amazon’s streaming platform, Amazon Prime Video.
Malia, although only a fourth year student at Harvard, already has had a lot of experience in the entertainment industry. She interned for HBO’s Girls in 2015, as well as for The Weinstein Company in 2017 before Weinstein left the company amid numerous sexual assault allegations. She has also worked as a production assistant on CBS series Extant. Obama is planning to graduate in May 2021.
Not much is known of the Obama daughters nowadays, as they have lived their lives privately since their father left the White House in 2017. Barack did, however, did give some insight to his children’s lives during an InStyle interview in November of 2020:
"“Sasha is, as Malia describes it, completely confident about her own take on the world and is not cowed or intimidated — and never has been — by anybody’s titles, anybody’s credentials. And Malia, she is just buoyant. She’s somebody who enjoys people, enjoys life, and enjoys conversation. She’s never bored, which is a badass quality that can take you places.”"
Barack also revealed that, during the pandemic, Malia and Sasha had been quarantining with their parents, as well as Malia’s boyfriend.
“We took him in and I didn’t want to like him, but he’s a good kid,” Barack said.
We may not know much of the 22-year-old Obama, but one thing we know for sure is that we’re excited to see how this new series turns out and where this takes her.
