Diana Prince and Etta Candy (Wonder Woman)
Wonder Woman‘s Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) was an Amazonian princess who found herself smack dab in the middle of World War I. She was fish out of water, for sure, but Diana quickly made friends with U.S. pilot Captain Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) and his band of unorthodox heroes, which included his secretary, Etta Candy (Lucy Davis).
During the events of Wonder Woman, Etta is instrumental in helping Diana adopt a civilian persona, even though Etta herself is envious of Diana’s free spirit. Over the course of the film, they seem to rub off on each other, as Diana learns how to become a proper lady of society and Etta discovers her own hero within. Following Steve’s death, Etta was the first to comfort Diana, signifying a loss that they both felt.
In Wonder Woman 1984: The Junior Novel, a precursor to the 2020 film, we learn that Diana and Etta came to America together at the end of the war. They also lived together for a while, presumably up until Etta’s death.
There is a scene in Wonder Woman 1984 that shows various mementos and artifacts collected around Diana’s home, including a picture of Diana with an elderly Etta Candy on a boat together. It’s a lovely notion that their friendship stood the test of time, as well Diana’s dangerous work as a crime-fighting superhero.
