Rejoice! Freeform’s The Bold Type has been renewed for a fifth season. That’s the good news.

The bad news? Sadly, it’ll be the last season of the series and will be shortened to just six episodes. Season four was also cut from 18 episodes to 16 due to the COVID-19 pandemic — but six episodes is an especially short timeline to wrap up these characters’ storylines.

Production on the final season will reportedly begin in January, with the episodes slated to air sometime this year.

There’s still a lot to unpack in the remaining episodes, and there are plenty of questions we want answered. Here’s what we need to know before The Bold Type takes its final bow.

Are Richard and Sutton endgame?

Throughout the first three seasons of The Bold Type, we saw Sutton and Richard going through some major difficulties to make their love work. The pair made their relationship public, risking losing their careers, and then Richard took a job across the country. Even then, they still managed to work it out.

Just when the audience had gotten used to their fairytale love, though, the season four writers had to throw in a curveball. What was it that broke up Richard and Sutton? Kids. Richard wanted them, and Sutton did not.

Meghann Fahy, who plays Sutton, spoke with Variety about her character not wanting kids:

"“I think she does mean it. Beyond that for Sutton, I think there are a lot of reasons why that might be true for her, and I don’t totally feel that she has explored all of that within herself. Maybe she’ll do that and not change her mind, or maybe she’ll do that and change her mind.”"

Why couldn’t the writers just give them a happy ending? Luckily, there’s still a chance they’ll get it in season five. Fingers crossed.

Will Kat and Adena get back together?

Kat is a young, charismatic, and fearless woman. She’s truly a great representation of Black women and the LGBTQ+ community, and I’ve loved watching her explore her sexuality, stand up for racial equality, lose her dream job, and then bounce back. While she’s dated many people, however, she’s only been in love with one of them: Adena El-Amin.

Adena was the one who got Kat to tap into her bisexuality, and let’s be honest, we’re not feeling her new conservative girlfriend, Eva. The final season may only be six episodes, but that’s enough to rekindle Kat and Adena’s relationship.

Will Jane play a bigger role at Scarlet?

At the end of season four, Jaqueline Carlyle deems Jane the star reporter and future of Scarlet Magazine, so it’s time to see her in a bigger role. Perhaps the role of editor-in-chief?

Jane has paid her dues by writing hard-hitting articles that get readers thinking. She’s even gotten her own vertical and become the boss of a small group of writers. With Carlyle ready to focus on her marriage and needing Jane more than ever, it may be time for Jane to shine. We hope so anyway!
