Who is Tian Richards, the lead of the Nancy Drew spin-off?

On January 27, news broke that Tian Richards had been cast as Tom Swift in The CW’s Nancy Drew spin-off series. But who is Richards? And why are we so excited about this news?

When we learned that there was going to be a Nancy Drew spin-off, there was a sense of excitement over the idea of this series expanding and growing. Not only is Nancy an iconic character, but she is part of a vast series of books that has given us some amazing characters as well. (And we aren’t even thinking about the Hardy Boys, who had their own series.)

Knowing that the “Drewniverse” is getting more diverse with the arrival of Tom Swift is already the kind of exciting news we are here for. But now that Entertainment Weekly has revealed that Tian Richards will be taking on the role of Tom, we need to know who this actor is.

And considering the plan is to introduce Tom Swift in episode 15 of this season of Nancy Drew, we kind of want to know who will be coming to town and disrupting the Drew Crew.

Who is Tian Richards?

While his acting portfolio might not seem large, it is still rather impressive. Richards has had parts in Being Mary Jane, Burden, and Dumplin’ to name a few. And while some people might be curious about why he got the role with so few jobs under his belt, it seems like a perfect fit. We want someone who isn’t quite as well known to lead this series.

Just like with Nancy Drew, we don’t want to be taken out of the story because we can’t envision these actors as the characters they are portraying. Plus, with the roles he has already taken on, Richards has proven that he can bring to life this gay billionaire known for his inventions and innovations. He is a man of science who also seems to believe in the paranormal.

And when he and Nancy come together, it might just be a perfect friendship (or maybe not, as we have seen how Nancy handles all that).

Tom Swift is an exciting character in the Drewniverse, and we can’t wait to see how they bring this character to life on screen. The fact that they have chosen their lead means we can expect even more news to come soon. And we can’t wait.
