Nancy Drew gave us a better idea of who Ned is outside of the Drew Crew
Since The CW’s Nancy Drew started, we have slowly been learning about each of the members of the Drew Crew. And in the latest episode, “The Reunion of Lost Souls,” we learned a bit more about Ned Nickerson thanks to his mother making a visit to town.
After the first season, we know that, at one point, Ned was in prison — and it was with the help of Nancy’s father, Carson Drew, that he was given a second chance of sorts, even if that chance is tainted by a town with plenty of prejudice in different ways. However, in this new episode, we get a deeper picture of what that second chance means to Ned, as he tells his mother that he will not go home to Florida until he has proven that he is not someone who makes their mother cry.
In an episode with a title like “Reunion of Lost Souls,” this moment between mother and son seems especially poignant. And of course, there is something about not only seeing the way a man interacts with his mother, but also how she interacts with the people in his life, that really gives you a sense of who a person is. No matter what happened in the past, it is clear that Ned wants to prove to his mother, family, and maybe even himself that he is a good person who can succeed in life no matter what happens.
However, there was a lot more to Ned’s story than just a visit from mom and the truth of his relationship with George. We also got to see him really have a bit of a heart-to-heart with Nancy Drew herself. Considering they seem to be dancing around each other a bit since they broke up, it was nice to see them really connecting again.
Nancy Drew gives a look at Ned beyond being a member of the Drew Crew
Even Ned’s interactions with one of the ghosts in this episode was a look into who this character is. After all, he not only attempted to connect with this lost soul, but he also fought him as well.
With everything that Nancy Drew and her friends are dealing with it was still interesting to see Ned attempt to bring a sense of humanity to someone who was not just long dead, but who apparently did some awful things when he was alive.
Now we just have to wait to see if this character development continues and if it adds more depth to the overall story moving forward. Plus, now that we have seen other victims of the Aglaeca, it should be interesting to learn what comes next and how the Drew Crew can avoid death by sea witch.
What did you think of the episode? Were you as invested in Ned’s story or was there something else that really called to you? Tell us in the comments.
