Sundance Film Festival: Coda

Kicking off our list is a film that makes its world’s premiere the first night of the festival – CODA, written and directed by Siân Heder (Orange is the New Black, Tallulah).

CODA (which stands for “Children of Deaf Adults”) stars Emilia Jones as Ruby, the only hearing member of a deaf family. When the family’s fishing business is threatened, Ruby finds herself torn between pursuing her love of music and her fear of abandoning her parents.

The film, produced by Phillippe Rousselet, Fabrice Gianfermi, Patrick Wachsberger, is competing in the U.S. Dramatic Competition and will debut Thursday, January 28th at 7:00 pm CT.

Sundance Film Festival: How It Ends

One of Sundance 2021’s more star-studded entries, How it Ends follows the free-spirited Liza (Zoe Lister-Jones) as she gets an invite to attend one last party the same day that an asteroid is set to obliterate the earth. Making it there won’t be easy, though, after her car is unceremoniously stolen, and the clock is ticking on her plan to tie up loose ends with friends and family.

With a little help from her whimsical younger self (Cailee Spaeny), Liza embarks on a journey by foot across Los Angeles as she seeks to make peace with her regrets—and find the right company for those last few hours before it’s all over.

Produced, written, and directed by Daryl Wein and Zoe Lister-Jones, the film’s stacked cast includes Helen Hunt, Olivia Wilde, Fred Armisen, and Nick Kroll, among others. How it Ends premieres on Friday, January 29 at 5:00 pm central time.
