The first major film fest of 2021 has arrived, right smack in the middle of award season, in the form of the Sundance Film Festival.

Following in the footsteps of TIFF, AFI, NYFF, and most other major film festivals across the globe over the past year, Sundance will be going (mostly) digital for the first time ever in 2021, thanks to the continued restrictions necessitated by the coronavirus pandemic. But while the way in which attendees catch movies is a little more homebody-friendly than hurrying around Park City, Utah for a week, that doesn’t mean the quality and diversity of films selected for the festival is any less exciting.

From more than 14,000 submissions across the globe, the full Sundance program this year features entries from 29 different countries, 38 first-time feature filmmakers, and a vast array of subjects and mediums.

From VR films in the “New Frontier” category to major Oscar contenders like Judas and the Black Messiah making its world premiere, the fest’s packed lineup should have something for just about every kind of film lover.

So, with so much to unpack, we’ve highlighted ten of our most anticipated films coming to Sundance 2021.
