Riverdale spared no time ramping things up in its season 5 premiere last week. The show has a lot of work to do this season, having to pick up the pieces of its abbreviated fourth season while laying the groundwork for a previously announced time jump.

Most notably, Betty and Jughead dove further into their investigation of the Auteur and voyeur tapes, even as Archie and Veronica and Cheryl and Toni broke up, all while senior prom raged on.

Just one episode into the new season, and it’s already clear that Riverdale has plenty of shocking twists and turns in store for us.

According to IMDB, the official synopsis for “Chapter Seventy-Eight:  The Preppy Murders” reads:

"Betty and Jughead’s investigation into the auteur takes a twisted turn after receiving a call from Bret. Archie is forced to make an impossible decision when the person responsible for his father’s death needs his help."

As seen in the synopsis and preview above, it looks like “Chapter Seventy-Eight” has more Archie Angst in store as Hiram comes calling to deliver vengeance on behalf of his scorned daughter. What this will look like, and whether Archie and Hiram will both survive the fight, remains to be seen…

Meanwhile, Betty and Jughead continue their search for the Auteur with many questions left to be answered after the shocking VHS murder at the senior prom, including what Bret’s involvement is. Needless to say, we’ll be tuning in.
