In its season 5 premiere, Riverdale gave us one last look at KO Kelly

A lot happened in the Season 5 premiere of Riverdale. Considering it was technically a continuation of Season 4, it makes sense that it was an action-packed episode. And while there were a lot of big moments in the episode – the breakup, the rave, the faux murders, and even the latest video left on Archie’s doorstep – it was the arrival of Katy Keene’s KO Kelly that really struck a nerve.

Don’t get me wrong, there were some major moments in the premiere of Riverdale. And with so much happening, it is hard to pinpoint one moment over another that may have been a real shocker or turning point. However, the fact that we got another chance to appreciate KO Kelly made everything worth it.

Perhaps if we had gotten the KO Kelly episode of Riverdale in Season 4 like we were originally supposed to, maybe Katy Keene would have had more of a chance to shine. Even though they did introduce Katy in the fourth season, giving us more glimpses into that world might have changed the outcome of Katy Keene’s cancellation.

Riverdale kicked off Season 5 with a showdown between KO Kelly and Archie

No matter how things turned out, we definitely got the chance to appreciate KO a bit more in the premiere. Not only did we get to see KO and Archie go head-to-head in the boxing ring, but we also got multiple moments where the character proved that he could easily fit into the Riverdale chaos.

Not only did he seem to mix well with Veronica and her friends (with canon being that Veronica and Katy are friends, it makes sense that KO and Veronica know each other), but he also shared more than one solid moment with Archie over the course of the premiere. And not only that, but they even let KO go to the prom! This also means he got a first-hand look at the drama and weird murderous mystery happening in the town and he barely even blinked.

While it is unlikely that we will get to see anymore Katy Keene magic, it was nice to at least say a proper goodbye to KO Kelly. As a fan of the original comics, he was always a favorite. And during Katy Keene, he proved to be a loyal friend and ex-boyfriend.

So if there was nothing else that Riverdale gave us in their premiere, it was a goodbye to a character that didn’t get enough of a chance to shine.
