Need some help deciding what to read this month? We run down 11 of the best new science fiction and fantasy book releases hitting shelves this January to kick off 2021.

At long last, 2021 is here! (Thank everything. Think about you never, 2020.)  And a new year means many things: A fresh start, a chance to remake old habits, and wipe the slate clean. It also means that it doesn’t matter how short you fell of your annual Goodreads reading challenge book goal: There are 365 new days now, and plenty of new reads to fill them.

This year looks as though it will be filled to the brim with exciting new releases of all sorts, and some of the most exciting new titles are science fiction and fantasy stories, several of which are arriving in January to kick off 2021 in style.

From the long-awaited fourth book in Samantha Shannon’s exceptional Bone Season series to a highly anticipated return to the world of Graceling from Kristin Cashore and the conclusion to Brigid Kemmerer’s A Curse So Dark and Lonely trilogy, there are plenty of big name titles hitting shelves this month. There are also debuts from exciting authors like J. Elle (Wings  of  Ebony) and exciting new series from established favorites like M.A. Carrick (The Mask of Mirrors) and Joanna Ruth Meyer (Into the Heartless Wood).

As we stare down the barrel of a dark winter where we all need to do our best to stay home, it’s a comfort to know that we’ll be pretty spoiled for choice when it comes to our reading options. Here are the SFF titles we’ll be diving into this January.
