Paying homage to the ’70s series

There are several moments of fan service planted throughout Wonder Woman 1984, most of which happen organically, without feeling like the core audience is being pandered to. As we learn how Diana gains an invisible jet, we also get to see her powers progress and she finally learns how to fly by the end of the movie. Many of the civilian outfits that Diana wears are modeled after Lynda Carter’s wardrobe from the original Wonder Woman television series.

There is also a wonderful cameo by the OG Wonder Woman herself, Lynda Carter, during the mid-credits scene, and we love that it wasn’t a throwaway appearance, but one that was actually tied to the overall story.

Carter plays the role of Asteria, a fierce Amazonian warrior who was thought to be dead, but appears to be just fine, touring the world and still saving people. Carter’s schedule didn’t allow her to be a part of the original Wonder Woman film, so we are awfully glad they were able to work something out this time around.
