Netflix is set to stream Cobra Kai season 3 earlier than originally scheduled. Here’s what to anticipate from the upcoming 10 episodes.

*Disclaimer: This includes spoilers of Cobra Kai: Season 2.

The release date to Cobra Kai season 3 makes 2021 seem not that far away at all.

Netflix now plans to roll out the third season of Cobra Kai on New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, 2021, a week earlier than originally scheduled.

The 10 episodes will pick up from the season 2 cliffhanger, which ended with a school fight where Robby Keene (Tanner Buchanan) attacked Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña) after Miguel showed mercy and, as a result, Miguel fell off a railing hitting a surface a few floors below. Miguel ended up in a hospital with both Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and his nemesis Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) pointed the blame for sparking the karate rivalry amongst the teens.

What to expect from season 3

Season 3’s trailer reveals that Miguel has survived the fall and will be rehabbing to learn how to walk again. Johnny will be trying to teach him through the process and has left Cobra Kai with his former sensei John Kreese (Martin Kove) regaining control of the Cobra Kai martial arts program.

That twist only ensures there will be more villains and those gang of kids are only going to be more out of control this upcoming season. And that starts with Tory (Peyton List) who will definitely be out for LaRusso’s daughter, Samantha (Mary Mouser), as their feud will more than likely be heightened this season.

Plus, as featured in the trailer, there are two of Daniel’s blasts from the past. The Karate Kid: Part II villain Chozen Toguchi (Yupik Okumoto) and love interest Kumiko (Tamlyn Tomita) will reprise their respective roles. Fans of the original movie series will get a kick out of seeing how this season explores the development of those characters and incorporate them in the storyline. The backbone of this series is how it develops the iconic characters of the past and incorporates them into the current storyline. Thus, showing where the characters are in life inside The Karate Kid-Cobra Kai universe.

Of course, one of the benefits of seeing Kumiko and Chozen is knowing there will somehow be a tie-in with the beloved Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita). The late Mr. Miyagi’s spirit shine’s through the show with LaRusso embodying the many life lessons he’s learned from his former trainer and, of course, teaching his kids and students the true values of Mr. Miyagi’s karate.

Speaking of a blast from the past, probably one of the most shocking twists in the trailer is seeing Daniel and Johnny team up. If these two are joining forces, then there’s definitely a scenario that screams crisis for these two characters. Fans of the show know that this partnership will definitely not last and the fallout `will only spark more drama down the road.

All in all, there are twists, blasts from the past, and potential answers to questions that Cobra Kai: Season 2 left viewers. All of those ingredients set up a promising season for this hit series.
