The Masked Singer crowns its season 4 winner and two runner-ups
By Gino Terrell
The top three The Masked Singer season 4 contestants are finally revealed.
And the winner of The Masked Singer season four is … The Sun.
The Sun took home the golden mask followed by runner-up Mushroom and Crocodile coming in third place on Wednesday.
Now that The Masked Singer has crowned its season 4 winner, the face behind the mask is two-time Grammy Award-winning singer LeAnn Rimes.
The Masked Singer Winner: The Sun is LeAnn Rimes
In the “super six” semifinals judge Nicole Scherzinger guessed The Sun was Rimes and she was correct. Throughout the season the country singer had performances that made the judges emotional including her a cappella to Billie Eilish’s “When The Party’s Over.” One that made guest judge Craig Robinson say, “All my life, I’ve felt the heat of the sun. I had never heard the voice of the sun until now.”
In Rimes exit interview she said being on the reality competition show was a “beautiful experience.” A refreshing quality of the show was performing anonymously as it is something she hasn’t had much experience in her life since she became well-known as a child singer.
“To have my anonymity back in a way where people just really feel me instead of having this preconceived idea or thought of who they think I am, or who I should be,” she said. “It felt good to have … everyone just feel me and hear me for who I really am.”
Looking at her The Sun mask one last time was bittersweet for the “Blue” singer who told it, “You’ll be in my heart forever and you’ve been very difficult at times, but it’s okay. I have much love for you.”
2nd Place: Mushroom is Aloe Blacc
The runner-up who sung his way down to the finals as Mushroom is revealed as Aloe Blacc and, of course, Scherzinger was on to his trail. The artist who was once nominated for a Grammy Award for Best R&B Album said his motivation for joining the show was to try something new and, most importantly, surprise his family as he has a seven-year-old daughter at home.
The “I Need A Dollar” singer said he tried to channel his daughter’s spirit to embody his character Mushroom.
“There was a feeling behind every note. There was a truth, there was a connection that, you know, we felt it,” Robin Thicke told Blacc after a performance.
Before departing with his character, Blacc told Mushroom head, “It was a pleasure to represent for those mushrooms and for the connectors of the world.” He also had a message to his fans as his goal on the show was to represent “compassion, love and shared joy.”
”We are all here just this one time to experience life. Let’s make the most of it,” Blacc said.
3rd Place: Crocodile is Nick Carter
A boyband member cracked the top three in this competition and Jenny McCarthy called it. The performer inside Crocodile was none other than Nick Carter from the Backstreet Boys. For Carter, he told the judges his journey on the show was nostalgic as it “brought [him] back to what it was like” when he began his 27-year career in the music industry. One thing he did do while on the show was experiment with various genres of music to change things up when performing.
“The most exciting thing about performing on The Masked Singer is the fact that my children, my croclings, are actually going to get a chance to see Daddy and see him in a way that they’ve never seen him before,” Carter said.
He added, that through the clue packages his kids will learn new things about him, too.
Carter addressed the Crocodile as “Mr. Daddy Croc” before he exited telling his mask, “It’s been a lot of fun, but I have to go home. You’re always going to stay with me,” before adding, “You’re gonna always be with everybody out there, all right. Maybe I’ll see you soon.”
