Let’s talk about why FOX’s The Masked Singer is actually the greatest reality competition show on prime time television today.

Is the FOX original series with celebrities performing in mascot costumes the best reality show on television? Let’s go down the rabbit hole.

The Masked Singer is underway with its fourth season and the show appears to get stronger every cycle. It’s mysterious, there’s comedy and it’s packed with tons of fun.

While it’s one of the more unique reality competition shows on television, there are three reasons to believe that The Masked Singer is truly is the greatest reality show of its genre on prime time television.

3. Celebrity Contestants

The biggest appeal of this show is there are celebrity contestants behind each mask. Each season, this series adds more and more big names from Grammy Award winners (Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight, and Seal) to Super Bowl champions (Terry Bradshaw and Rob Gronkowski) and one time, even a politician in former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Like ABC’s Dancing With the Stars, this show allows celebrities to tell their own narratives and through their storyline viewers can find out new things about some of the most sought-after public figures.

While this is a music-performance based show, it relies on so much more than singing and rapping ability. Stage presence is just as important in this show and with that said, every celebrity competing has a fighting chance. A musical talent with the likes of five-time Grammy Award winner Lil Wayne was even the first to be unmasked in season 3.

There have been celebrities like season 1 winner T-Pain, who have arrived on the scene and shown off an unsung talent. In T-Pain’s case, he was able to show the world how talented of a singer he is. The “Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin’)” singer revealed he originally wanted to be an R&B singer with his natural singing voice. But for the purpose of his brand and marketing, the industry forced him to use auto-tunes and create club banging hip-hop tracks (which has led to a successful music career).

The celebrity appeal is just one of three elements that make this show so special.
