Gremlin Unmasked as Mickey Rourke

Gremlin made history as the first contestant on the show to ever unmask themselves before the official elimination. This occurred after Gremlin’s debut performance during the Group B Audition round. During the brief deliberation, it turns out Jenny McCarthy was the only judge who nailed her pick, claiming Mickey Rourke was Gremlin.

Marvel fans will remember Rourke as the villain in Iron Man 2. So when it came to selecting his costume, the former boxer decided to go with a furry and lovable character. Singing Ben E. King’s “Stand By Me,” he thought his friend Robin Thicke would pick up on his voice.

“We’ve hung out a few times down in Miami,” Thicke said.

Had Gremlin stayed on the show a little longer, perhaps Thicke and others would have hit a light-bulb moment. Ken Jeong was not too far off picking up on the boxing clues suggesting the performer was wrestler Stone Cold Steve Austin.

The Angel Heart star dedicated his appearance on The Masked Singer to his friend the late Willy DeVille, a singer and songwriter who passed away in 2009.

“It was all about my feelings about Willy,” Rourke said during his unmasked interview.

Through Nicole Scherzinger’s ears and others, he put on a delightful show.

“I love Gremlin. I loved his voice. It has so many different layers…all the textures in it. It was yummy. That’s some seasoning,” Scherzinger said.
