Another classic novel of our collective youths is headed to television – Hulu’s dark and gritty new remake of The Hardy Boys will arrive in December.

The first trailer for Hulu’s gritty new remake of The Hardy Boys is here, and it’ll undoubtedly get you curious about what this series might look like.

Shockingly enough, this show is going to stream on Hulu and not air on The CW, where a successful adaptation of Nancy Drew already lives and which is contemplating its own “Drewniverse” of related series. But, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t look like a good time in its own right. (Even if I wish I could get Nancy and the Hardy Boys crossovers. Just saying.)

The series even has a similar gritty feel – thanks a lot for that trend, Riverdale – though it does appear that it will skew a bit younger than its CW cousin.

The Hardy Boys series follows brothers Frank and Joe Hardy as they solve relatively simple mysteries in their hometown. The series has been in publication since 1927 and this Hulu adaptation will mark the fifth onscreen version of the infamous pair.

In this version, Frank, 16, and Joe, 12, must unexpectedly move from the big city to their parents’ hometown of Bridgeport in the wake of a family tragedy. But while staying with their aunt, the boys’ summer quickly changes course when they realize their father has undertaken some sort of secret investigation.

Though the original Hardy Boys stories certainly dealt with some fairly adult themes – murder, drugs, and the like – they also generally included inspirational tones and lessons for both readers and characters alike to learn. This one…well, it has a lot more doom-predicting fortune tellers, is all I’m saying.

Watch the trailer for yourselves below.

This series stars newcomers Rohan Campbell and Alexander Elliot as the sleuthing brothers.

All 13 episodes will arrive on Hulu on December 4.
