Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse
Rebecca Roanhorse is known for weaving masterful SFF stories together, and she’s starting a new trilogy this month called Between Earth and Sky. The first book, Black Sun, will set up a world of magic and danger — and honestly, what more do we need in a fantasy novel?
Black Sun begins in the fictional city of Tova, where the collision of the winter solstice and a solar eclipse may alter things forever. At least, that’s what the Sun Priest has warned, and it’s enough reason to cause concern for our characters — two of whom are headed to the city by way of ship. Xiala, the ship’s captain, is transporting one passenger — and he sounds intriguing to say the least:
"“Described as harmless, the passenger, Serapio, is a young man, blind, scarred, and cloaked in destiny. As Xiala well knows, when a man is described as harmless, he usually ends up being a villain.”"
Between its setting and its characters, Roanhorse’s latest sounds like a perfect match for anyone looking for some darker fantasy this month. We all love a morally questionable character — and it sounds like Black Sun has us covered there.
Black Sun is available now in ebook, audiobook, and print formats.
