Liv Tyler won’t return for 9-1-1: Lone Star season 2, but that may not be a bad thing

Here’s why Liv Tyler not returning for 9-1-1: Lone Star is not necessarily bad news.

While 9-1-1: Lone Star will be back for a second season, the show will be doing that minus one of its biggest stars: Liv Tyler. But it’s actually okay. Although we love Tyler and what she brought to the show, her exit from the series isn’t the worst thing that could happen.

As TVLine reported when they announced that Liv Tyler was not coming back for season two, the problem revolves around the fact that she lives in London and filming takes place in Los Angeles. And with travel restrictions in place due to COVID-19, it makes it difficult for her to do what needs to be done to give her best to 9-1-1: Lone Star.

Is her exit sad news? Absolutely! We loved watching Tyler bring the character of Michelle Blake to life on our screens. Plus, she was a great foil for Rob Lowe’s Owen Strand.

Luckily, by the end of the first season, we had a complete story for Michelle and her family. And while we would have liked to see what comes next, there is always the possibility that once the pandemic eases and restrictions are lifted, Tyler could return to add more to her story.

All of this being said, by losing Liv Tyler, we open the door for new characters, such as the one Gina Torres is about to give us, to shine. At the same time, this also means that Lowe’s character is going to have to find a way to stand on his own two feet in Austin. After all, a lot of his success in season one was because Michelle had his back. (Seriously, how many times did it seem like Michelle was the only reason Owen was able to get things done?)

While it will be weird not seeing Tyler on our screens when the season premieres, if they are able to tell the story in a way that makes sense as to why she isn’t there, and it leaves the door open for her to return, then this might end up being a good thing for the show.

9-1-1: Lone Star may not be returning for its second season until 2021, but we are here for all of the news that the last month has given us. And with filming set to begin later this year, it makes sense that this kind of cast news would break now.
