The 2023 Fandoms of the Year dropped and one much-discussed TV show made the cut which is Sister Wives.

Even though I haven’t covered the show before, it’s one I watch frequently and have been keeping up with for the past two seasons. The show has truly become a spectacle and is still in shambles now.

If you’ve been following the Sister Wives storylines, then you’ll know that the show originally began with Kody Brown and his three wives: Meri, Janelle, and Christine. Then Robyn was added into the family and things truly fell apart from there.

Since then, the show has slowly become the Robyn and Kody show with the other wives proving their independence and wanting more aside from their plural marriage vows.

Sister Wives is a must-watch if you’re looking for girl power and friendship.

With a show entitled Sister Wives, you might think it’s more about being someone’s wife but the show has truly transcended that title. Throughout Season 18, we’ve watched as Kody’s wives slowly started to distance themselves from him. Christine was already gone while Janelle and Meri were already halfway out the door at that point.

Things started to boil over as Kody couldn’t seem to make it work with Janelle or Meri due to other issues. Aside from that, the series truly became a chance for these women to tell their stories and share what they’ve been feeling. For Christine, it was a new beginning for her and the chance to find the true love she’d been hoping for.

Then for Janelle, she’s been grappling with Kody’s issue with their kids and it finally came to a head in an explosive fight. From there, Janelle was ready to wash her hands of him and her friendship with Christine started to flourish. Honestly, it’s so awesome to see these two being such great friends and still being close despite everything else going on.

Last but not least, we have Meri who made a lot of decisions for herself. She chose to move her business and at the end of the season, ready to leave Kody. Meri has been strung along by him for years but she finally had her eyes opened and she’s ready to move on. Meri has a life elsewhere with multiple businesses, a great best friend, and lots to be thankful for.

Ultimately, Sister Wives became everything Kody never wished it would be. His wives are getting more love, respect, and sympathy than him. While there will always be some family drama, it’s clear these women are better off, doing their things and being independent than being stuck with him.

While it’s unclear if we’ll get another season of Sister Wives, it’s great to see the show end on such a happy note for Meri, Janelle, and Christine. Christine is already happy and moved on and I’m sure all of us wish the best for Meri and Janelle. I don’t think the reality TV landscape would have been the same in 2023 without Sister Wives there.
