With the health crisis continuing to put Hollywood at a standstill, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have delayed the release date for Spider-Man 3 — again.

After all the chaos surrounding Tom Holland’s Spider-Man being removed from — and then returned to soon thereafter — the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans are eager to see him don the suit and grace the big screen one more time. Unfortunately, however, it looks like they’ll be waiting a little longer to see what happens to him in the aftermath of Spider-Man: Far From Home.

Variety reports that the third installment in the newest series of Spider-Man movies, which was initially pushed back to November 5, 2021, will now hit theaters a month later on December 17, 2021. Sony made the announcement on Thursday night, following Disney’s announcement that Mulan, Avatar 2, and its upcoming Star Wars trilogy will all face delays.

This is the second time Spider-Man 3 has seen a change of release dates, as it was initially meant to premiere in July 2021. When the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic began, Marvel Studios rearranged its lineup of upcoming films. And although Spider-Man 3 is currently the only one being delayed again, it’s possible Phase 4 will be shaken up once more — especially now that the studio has begun pushing back its Disney+ series.

With summer blockbusters and theater openings continuing to inch further back in the year, the future remains foggy for the film industry. With any luck this will be the last time the MCU’s Phase 4 is impacted by the crisis. But it’s too soon to bet on it.
