Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD: How long will Sousa stick around?
Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD added a new time-displaced team member this season in Daniel Sousa. But will he see everything through to the present day?
Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD answered a few of our burning questions in the latest episode, but handed us plenty more.
And there are some very pressing questions the episode left us with.
I’m not here to talk about those. I was way off base with my theories on Simmons, so let’s focus on something that matters a little less:
Daniel Sousa.
I was right on the money with how they’d save him! Enver Gjokaj is a great addition to the cast–and a very welcome one for us Agent Carter fans. His rapport with everyone works so well, mostly because the team reveres him and he’s just trying to figure out what’s going on in the world in the 1970s.
After last week’s jump to the 70s, he loudly proclaimed that he would be getting off the time jumping train soon, that it was too much for him.
At the very end of this week’s episode, with a minute to spare, Simmons asked him if he was going to get off, and he said no, looking at Daisy in the healing tube. Because apparently Agents of SHIELD really wants us to ship Daisy and Sousa (which… I’m surprisingly not against).
Sousa not getting off in 1976 begs the question: When will he stop his time traveling journey?
Is he one for the long haul? As the head of the west coast SHIELD division, one would assume he’s a man who has to see things through to the end. And this SHIELD team can now use all the leadership it can, even if he’s a little time-displaced.
Likewise, he seems to feel a connection to Daisy, so that will help keep him around.
But what if they stop in a decade that he finds himself enjoying? The Eighties might be a little too extreme, but what about the grunge era of the 90s? Or the dawn of the serious personal technology era in the 2000s where he can get one of those fancy iPhones like Daisy had?
The latter would also explain how he shows up in the first Avengers film as a NYC cop.
Of course all of these options point back to the idea of time streams and whether he’d be left behind in an alternate timeline and if it really matters.
Where do you think Sousa will end up on Agents of SHIELD? Will he see things out with the team or will he leave us hanging in an earlier decade? Let us know in the comments!
