Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD brought Daniel Sousa back into the action. But how long will he stick around?

Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD has been having so much fun with time travel in its final season. It’s been a solid mix of action, heart, and humor in its first three episodes.

In this week’s episode, we time jumped to 1955 and reintroduced Agent Daniel Sousa, a staple from Marvel’s Agent Carter, Peggy’s partner, and potential love interest.  Granted, quite a few years have passed since the finale of Agent Carter, and it’s obvious that Sousa and Peggy are no longer a thing.

(Avengers: Endgame might also have something to say about that.)

In the preview for the upcoming episode, we see just where things are going to go for poor Agent Sousa. Take a look:

The team’s going to have to wrestle with whether they let history happen or save someone who is genuinely good and dies too young trying to do the right thing.

Which sucks, because Enver Gjokaj’s familiar face is a very welcome addition.

But Agents of SHIELD doesn’t always take the easy way out. This season has constantly preached about causing ripples in the time stream and not waves.

Here’s my solution for the situation, and I desperately hope Agents of SHIELD goes this route: Our SHIELD crew teams up with Sousa in the upcoming episode, posing as CIA or anything else to get him to believe them after everything he saw this past week (mostly the melted chronicom). They may even let him know they’re a new division of SHIELD and understand his hard work in uncovering Hydra within its ranks.

They will go through the motions, protecting him along the way. And when the time comes for him to die … they save him anyway.

And to prevent waves and to keep him “dead,” they bring him into the SHIELD traveling fold. I mean, they already have one displaced time traveler in Deke; he’s just from the future. What’s one more to even it out? One from the future, one from the past.

Besides, wouldn’t you love to see Coulson constantly fanboying over Sousa for the rest of the season?

Regardless of whether Agents of SHIELD keeps Sousa around for the long haul of the season, it’s been fun to see where he’s gone since Agent Carter ended.

Agent Carter’s Enver Gjokaj has some feelings about Avengers: Endgame. dark. Next
