Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD: Let’s talk about Jemma Simmons
Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD has played coy with Jemma Simmons this season, but things are starting to unravel. So, what’s going on with our favorite scientist?
Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD needs to start giving us answers sooner rather than later.
First of all, we’ve already made this point. Secondly, I’ve already theorized about Jemma Simmons once. And third, I have also theorized about Fitz. However, we finally have a slight update since my last theorizing.
In this week’s episode, Simmons seemed more off than normal, forgetting her train of thought and the fact that Deke calls Fitz “Bobo.” She rubbed at her neck constantly, and we finally got a glance at what’s going on: three red lights underneath.
Meaning there’s definitely something going on with Simmons.
She’s not an LMD — at least not the ones we know. That EMP she set off a few episodes ago would have knocked her out as well.
What frustrates me is that we still don’t know how much time has passed since Daisy and the team came back to the Zephyr. It’s very possible that FitzSimmons lived their lives (40-plus years’ worth) inventing all of this technology alongside Enoch. They could have created an even more advanced LMD/chronicom being that wouldn’t get wiped out by an EMP, and then transferred their consciousnesses into them.
Hence Simmons feeling like she’s glitching or forgetting how things are supposed to happen.
Or this is just a “version” of Simmons and the real Jemma is long gone. I feel like that’s too much of a downer ending for Agents of SHIELD, especially for this character.
What if FitzSimmons are off hiding together, and this Simmons is just a sort of remote control version of her? So that if she gets taken by the chronicoms again, she can just wipe everything from it and keep them safe?
My other, even more far-fetched idea is that Simmons’ time with the crew is coming to a close. This is a more organic chronicom/LMD that can also shapeshift. And Simmons’ and Fitz’s consciousnesses are both in the same body. Enoch needs to “recharge” Simmons, take her away from the crew, and return with Fitz, who replaces her in the interim.
It’s not exactly a seamless thing. Or probably smart, but it would explain why we haven’t heard from Fitz yet this season.
With the next Agents of SHIELD episode looking like it’s going to dive further into body duplicates and robots, we may have our answer on Simmons very soon. What are your thoughts on what might be going on?
