Did Flight 828 really crash?

Given that we’ve been watching this show for two full seasons at this point,  most of us have probably sort of taken it as a given that the series’ central mystery is why Flight 828 vanished and where it went for five years. But what if that actually wasn’t the case?

In the season 2 finale, a group of fishermen discovered some wreckage in the ocean, including a fragment of a tail section that appears to be from Flight 828. Which, you know, is more than a little confusing, given that all the 828 passengers are apparently alive and the plan itself did physically return to New York. (At least, until it blew up a few episodes later.)

So….what plane did this wreckage come from? Were there two Flight 828s? Are the survivors we know the original passengers? Are they clones? Time travelers? Refugees from another dimension? Or is the answer something much more sinister? Could someone have planted this wreckage, to somehow further discredit Ben, Michaela and the other survivors?
