Travel Tuesday: 5 Beach Essentials that you need to buy ASAP
On your next relaxing beach day don’t forget these five beach essentials.
Even in the current climate, the beach can a perfect escape and the right beach essentials will make the next visit even better. With proper social distancing in mind and maybe a wish for a refreshing beach cocktail, it’s time to shop and be prepared for that next beach visit.
For some people, escaping to a beach is the ultimate way to relax. Whether the beach is around the corner or a long drive away, the sound of waves crashing on the shore can make all the stresses of the world wash away.
If you are thinking about a beach escape, there are some beach essentials that can make that next getaway more enjoyable. This small sampling focuses on a few little things, basically items that can be carried easily.
Remember, beach life is a simple life. You don’t want to be carrying so much stuff that someone thinks you are part of the Clampett family.
Here are my 5 beach essentials.
Reef Safe Sunscreen
Everyone knows that sunscreen is a must at any beach. Even on a cloudy day (especially on a cloudy day), you need to apply and re-apply often.
Still, not all sunscreens are the same. Even with all the SPF options, one big consideration is looking for the reef safe designation. Given all the other stress in the world’s waterways, sunscreen doesn’t need to be one of them.
Personally, Surface is my go to sunscreen. The line is reef safe and all products are free of Oxybenzone and Octinoxate. And, all the products are waterproof for 80 minutes. No more worrying about getting burned while cooling off in the water.
Beach bag
There is nothing worse than getting water, sand, or other mess into your beach bag. At the same time, you don’t want a bag that is devoid of all fashion. Luckily there is a solution.
Booe has made the perfect waterproof bag. Available in a variety of styles, the brand’s patented TRU-Zip technology ensures that it is totally waterproof. The seal is so tight that you can fill it with air and stand on it without breaking it.
Additionally, these bags are stylish. Whether you prefer a backpack-style or traditional bag, there is a colorful choice in the line. Plus, these bags can go from the beach to dinner. Remember, the beach life is a simple life.
Beach blanket
Unless you are at a resort, you might not have your own chair waiting at the beach for you. Having a beach blanket that is easy to use and covers a lot of space is smart.
While many people use a towel, a good, compact beach blanket is worth the money. The Eno Travel Blanket is a great investment.
Some people are familiar with Eno and its hammocks. The brand’s beach blankets are made from lightweight, easy to wash parachute nylon. In addition to having stakes and loops for easy set-up, it is so compact when folded.
The travel version can fit into a tiny bag yet unfold to a huge surface. While it can be a little pricey (around $50 for the travel size) it is a good investment if you are spending a lot of time at the beach.
Sunglasses
While you might want a hat too, sunglasses are a necessity at the beach. Although you might have an adorable pair of expensive sunglasses, you might want to leave that pretty pair at home. No one wants to give a $100 pair of glasses to the sea gods.
When picking a pair of sunglasses, look to see that the lenses are polarized. This aspect can help you see well and protect your eyes.
One brand that offers polarized glasses at an affordable price is Knockaround. While slightly more than your daily Starbucks habit, these sunglasses will get you noticed. Whether you want bold styles or something more subtle, there is an option for everyone.
Water bottle
It is important to stay hydrated at the beach. While that pretty cocktail might be a tasty sip, the warm weather and ocean breezes can be dehydrating.
Since single-use plastics aren’t environmentally conscious, a great water bottle is a must-have. From stainless steel to Tritan plastic, there are all types on the market.
Try to pick a brand that will keep your drink cold for a long time. For example, Tervis Stainless Steele products keep drinks cold for up to 24 hours.
Otherwise, it depends on personal preference. From feel in your hand, drinking options or expressing your style, the point is to fill a water bottle, not the ocean with single-use plastics.
These five beach essentials are just one person’s opinion. Everyone has a few things that they always have to have for the perfect beach day. Maybe you can share your must-haves in the comments section.
