Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD reckons with the space-time continuum in this week’s episode, as they go full-on black and white to save the world
Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD will constantly make its characters wrestle with not wanting to change history versus doing the right thing.
We saw this already when Daisy asked Deke to take out Wilfred Malick, whose family lineage will stay in the high ranks of Hydra for years to come.
This week is no exception. Here’s the official synopsis for this week’s episode, “Out of the Past,” courtesy of ABC:
"“It was just another average morning on July 22, 1955, when Agent Phil Coulson realized the importance of that day in the S.H.I.E.L.D. history books. With a chip on his shoulder and a genre-bending glitch in his system, he’d set into motion a chain of events that would hopefully preserve the timeline as we know it and ensure those pesky chronicoms get the ending they deserve. What could go wrong?”"
Plenty can go wrong, synopsis! This is Agents of SHIELD! Nothing is ever easy! Plus, this entire episode will be in black and white to go along with the film noir feel of it all.
This week’s episode, our team will wrestle with whether to save Daniel Sousa’s life or have him die the heroic hero… which is what happened in their past. Ripples, not waves, as Mack and Deke keep preaching.
But it’s really hard when it’s someone good dying young, dying for the right thing, and someone so big in SHIELD’s history (according to Coulson, and to any of us who watched Agent Carter).
I’ve already speculated on how they can keep the space-time continuum together and save Sousa. Here’s hoping Agents of SHIELD does something about it. But who knows? Things always end up getting messy.
