The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s X-Men team has allegedly been revealed — and it seems it may recycle some of the characters we’ve already seen onscreen.

Though production continues to be halted on most (but not all) of Marvel’s live-action projects, that hasn’t slowed down the behind-the-scenes mechanics. With the recent reports of upcoming projects centering around characters like Ironheart, Nova, and the Secret Warriors being in development, we’ve also heard a pretty substantiated rumor of just who will be included in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s X-Men.

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige confirmed at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con that the mutants were on their way, but with how far in advance Marvel plans out their project timelines, we knew it could be a while before we were actually introduced to them onscreen.

However, it may be sooner than we previously thought. Adding to the recent reports of Rogue appearing as the main villain in Captain Marvel 2 and Storm being part of Black Panther 2, we’re now hearing rumors of just how the team will come together, along with which mutants will comprise the X-Men. From all indications, it appears as though Marvel may be doing with the X-Men what they did with the Avengers: have them appear one by one and then have them join together to form a team down the road.

Now, it appears we have an idea of what that team will look like.

Although it is in the very early stages, the alleged X-Men lineup includes Cyclops, Marvel Girl (Jean Grey), Havok, Nightcrawler, Thunderbird, Sunfire, and Storm. Comic book aficionados will recognize that this is almost the exact same roster as 1975’s Giant-Size X-Men #1, which is credited with reviving the then-struggling comic book series. A noticeable absence is Wolverine, though being the X-Men character previously featured in the most movies, they may be giving the character a rest for now (and rightfully so).

Another thing of note is that all of these characters have already appeared in a live-action project, except for Sunfire. With Cyclops, Storm, Jean Grey, Havok, and Nightcrawler all previously appearing in multiple movies, we’ll have to wait and see what the casting looks like to decide whether or not its a good idea to recycle these characters yet again.

It’s been suggested that the X-Men will be very much centered around Xavier’s school, with some mutants attending classes and learning how to control their abilities, while others accompany Professor X on missions. Additionally, there is a report that Kitty Pryde will also be making her MCU debut, though not in the X-Men movie (at least, at first). They are currently planning on having Kitty be a part of an Agents of SWORD Disney+ series, that was previously rumored to be a spin-off of Agents of SHIELD, which is currently in the middle of airing its last season.

Seeing as how this is just a documented rumor at this point, and movies always go through rewrites, the roster could change entirely by the time production starts. Personally, I would like to see a team made up of a majority of characters we haven’t yet seen onscreen, at least together as a team. The Outback X-Men team is a great example and includes classic characters like Storm and Colossus, with newer characters like Dazzler and Psylocke.
