Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD continues its journey in 1931 tonight with the team trying to save the grandfather of the future head of Hydra

Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD has our team facing a very impressive quandary:

Can they find it in their hearts to save Hydra in order to save SHIELD and the rest of humanity?

I mean, obviously, our team is made up of upstanding citizens who will do what’s right even if it means having to save their sworn enemy since halfway through season one. But it’s still a fun pickle to put them in.

In case you missed it, the official synopsis for this week’s episode:

"“With the identity of the timeline-unraveling “thread” revealed, the team’s mission to protect him at all costs leads each agent to question their own values. Is preserving the future of the world as they know it worth the destruction they could prevent?”"

It honestly puts them in the same quandary as Steve Rogers at the end of Avengers: Endgame. If he really did stay in the past to be with Peggy and it’s the same timeline as when he heads back, did he really just sit around and watch Hydra infiltrate SHIELD? Kill the Starks? Because in the end, it turns out okay… but could he have made it better? Avoided all of that pain? Stopped so many mistakes?

That’s what our SHIELD team has to fight with. If they go on Deke’s theory that small ripples won’t change the larger stream, can they do enough to sideline Hydra and still save SHIELD?

It will depend on if they can save Freddie Malick or if they have to time jump to another point in order to stop the time wave the Chronicoms have started.
