The Boyfriend Project, the first book in the eponymously named series by Farrah Rochon, starts off scandalously. What better way is there to find out your boyfriend is cheating on you than by live Tweet? Samiah Brooks has some suggestions, but in the age of viral sensations, she doesn’t get much of a choice in the matter.

Internet fame is often thrust upon people without warning, and there are no guidelines on how to navigate it, but at least Samiah isn’t alone. Said boyfriend had two other “girlfriends,” London and Taylor, which means she has two people who get it. If there’s anything Samiah can say she got out of this bad situation, it’s two best friends.

Together, the trio make a pact to spend time on themselves for six months. They’re through with the messy triangle of men, dating, and relationship statuses. So, of course, in walks Daniel Collins. Samiah is supposed to be focusing on developing her dream app, but Daniel could be the dream guy she’s always wanted.

But even without the pact to consider, Samiah has been burned before, and some dreams are a little too good to be true.
