5. The Powerpuff Girls

What would a classic ’90s cartoons list be without The PowerPuff Girls?

If you were growing up during this time, chances are you either pretended to be one of these characters with your friends or you at least had one that was your favorite (I was a Buttercup girl). It was one of the first shows I saw that showed girls as superheroes and fighters instead of just boys.

The show aired from 1998 to 2005 and showed three girls, Bubbles, Buttercup, and Blossom, who happen to have superpowers. Each episode, the girls used their powers to defeat a villain (mostly Mojo Jojo) or a giant monster. But it wasn’t just about being superheroes, the show also covered normal kid issues like losing teeth, sibling rivalries, and problems at school.

The Powerpuff Girls are all about girl power and supporting each other. What’s better than that? All the seasons are available to watch on Hulu.
