2. Rugrats

Who doesn’t love Rugrats? Babies go on adventures! What’s not to like? The show aired from 1994 to 2004 and featured the adventures of Tommy Pickles and his friends, Chucky, Phil and Lil, and his cousin, Angelica. The other characters included Tommy’s parents, Susie Carmicheal, the girl next door, and Kimi Finster, Chuckie’s step-sister.

The babies discover things for the first time as their parents either are not watching them closely or, as is often the case with Grandpa Lou, the adult in the room is asleep. The babies take their chance to escape their playpen and use their imaginations to go on adventures of their own making. They often need to get around Angelica, as her sole purpose seems to be to make their lives as difficult as possible.

Rugrats was definitely one of those cartoons you watched and talked about with your friends the next day. For me, it was also the first show I watched that actually talked about and celebrated Hanukkah.

Rugrats was fun, allowed you to escape into this imaginative world without parents, and made it seem like kids could do anything.
