Netflix released the trailer for Becoming, and it shows who Michelle Obama is beyond being the former First Lady of the United States.

We all know who Michelle Obama is, but few know much about her outside of what they saw during her eight years as First Lady of the United States. That’s about to change, however, with the release of Netflix’s documentary, Becoming, which will dive into her own life as well, as the lives of the changemakers around her.

Netflix dropped the trailer for the documentary this week, and it promises to show a different side of the former First Lady. It opens with her speaking about where she’s from — childhood photos included — and then segues into her insistence that most of who she is was influenced by her life outside of the White House.

Watch the trailer for Becoming below:

“So little of who I am happened in those eight years,” Michelle says in the trailer. “So much more of who I was happened before.”

With any luck, we’ll get to see and hear about what came before, but the documentary isn’t just about Michelle’s experiences. The latter half of the trailer also sees her encouraging other young women to push the envelope and advocate for change in the world, making Becoming as inspirational as it is informative.

And the entire point of this documentary seems to be to inspire the next generation to step up, as is evident in the exclamation that “there are millions of Michelle and Barack Obamas all over the world.”

Closing out the trailer for Becoming is one of the young woman Michelle strives to inspire announcing that she “has the power to change the world.” Her confidence is powerful, and it has us more pumped than ever to dive into this documentary when it arrives on May 6. After all, we could all use some positive content like this during these difficult times.

Next. Space Force, She-Ra, and everything coming to Netflix in May. dark
