The first episode of Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian is here, and it opens by showing fans the passionate directors behind the Disney+ series.

Disney+ took Star Wars Day seriously this year, dropping The Rise of SkywalkerThe Clone Wars series finale, and the first episode of its Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian docuseries all on the same day. And although fans had an idea of what to expect from the first two items on that list, the behind-the-scenes documentary about The Mandalorian is unlike anything the franchise has brought us before.

If the first episode is anything to go by, however, the eight-part docuseries will showcase the passionate voices behind the Disney+ series, giving fans some insight into how they brought Mando’s story to life.

As one might guess, the first episode, which is titled “Directors,” features series creator Jon Favreau having a roundtable with the directors from the series. Included in the conversation are Taika Waititi, Deborah Chow, Dave Filoni, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Rick Famuyiwa. Individual interview clips and behind-the-scenes footage is shown alongside the discussion, making for an engaging compilation about The Mandalorian.

And if one thing is clear from the get-go, it’s that each and every person in the director’s seat during season one has a longtime love of Star Wars and was dedicated to making this series everything it could possibly be. Listening to each of the directors describe their experience both landing the role and executing it is invigorating, as is watching them take command on set.

While listening to the creatives speak about the show is nowhere near as intense as watching the series itself, Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian is giving us solid content to hold us over until the next season arrives. And honestly, there’s something so compelling about hearing fellow Star Wars fans nerd out over the work they’re doing for the franchise.

Next week’s episode, “Legacy,” will shift course and explore the impact of Star Wars as a whole. One has to assume this will be linked back to the franchise’s impact on the making of The Mandalorian as well — though we’ll have to wait and see where the next installment takes us once it arrives.
