Season 3 of Westworld continues on HBO this Sunday with “Passed Pawn”. Here’s how to watch online and not miss a minute of the new episode.
Westworld season 3 is almost over. Yes, really.
Thanks to a shortened season, we’re only getting eight episodes this time around instead of the series’ usual ten. So, the show has a ton of ground still to cover, and not a lot of time to do so.
We’ve all got many questions: What is Dolores’ ultimate plan? What’s going on with Bernard? What could possibly come of his team up with the Man in Black, who’s now very obviously dressed in white? And what of Dolores-as-Charlotte, who just watched the entire family she’d come to care for die horribly?
So, naturally, it seems like the perfect time for an episode focused on Caleb.
I mean, it’s not like we don’t have plenty of questions there too. But is now really the time for them? We’ll have to wait and see.
The episode is titled “Passed Pawn,” which in chess terms means a pawn that has progressed to the point on the board where there’s nothing between it and reaching the eighth level. (Translation: It can reach the other end be reborn as a queen (usually), but also a bishop, rook or knight. But, in the end, it’s a more powerful piece than it was before.)
So, as far as metaphors go, this isn’t exactly subtle, is it?
And, since the episode trailer indicates that season 3’s penultimate installment is somehow going to be all about Caleb, well. Seems like a pretty safe bet that his character is about to take on a whole new role within the narrative. (Which is something I think we’re all glad about – even if it feels a bit strange to focus on this now with so many dangling story threads remaining and so few episodes to go.)
