On Making the Cut, Ji Won Choi captivated fashionistas with designs that connected cultures. These chic looks will be must-haves in anyone’s closet.

As seen in the first two episodes of Making the Cut, Ji Won Choi has impressed the judges as well as fashionistas. While some people might be familiar with her designs, the Amazon Prime show and Amazon store open a whole new world of possibilities. Could Ji be the next great global brand?

From both her introduction on Making the Cut and via her namesake brand’s website, Ji has a clear vision to her design approach. While many of her looks have an ath-leisure vibe, she focuses on bringing both parts of her culture to her design aesthetic. Most importantly, she promotes the notion that positive change is achievable.

After the Making the Cut premiere, Ji spoke to Culturess about her approach to design, having her look being sold in the Making the Cut Amazon store, and embracing inclusivity in her designs.

Ji feels that her designs capture both parts of herself, the kid who tried to fit in and her Korean culture, which she has come to embrace. After trying so hard to fit in, she saw fashion as a way to stand out.

Ji commented that everyone has a beautiful thing about herself. Through her fashion, she believes she can encourage people to stand out by being different. Most importantly, it is about being true to yourself. Whether it is a moment of being bold or a time to fit in, the true self needs to be the guide.

Building on that idea, these special Amazon offerings are a great opportunity for fashionistas. Supporting young designers can be a chance for more people to have something special in their closet. Whether it is unique jacket or a signature piece, any fashionista can build her closet one piece at a time.

In the first two episodes, Ji received praise from the judges. Additionally, her look in episode two was picked by an Amazon buyer and is being sold in the Making the Cut store. That look has already sold out at the time of this publication.

This white dress is chic, yet with slight street edge. More importantly, it could be worn by any woman, with any body type. From the woman with curves to the woman without, anyone can wear this dress confidently.

That idea of confidence struck a chord with Ji. She mentioned that any woman can wear anything as long as they work it like they mean it. That inner confidence needs to come through each and every time. A look should never take away from the person; it should only make them stand taller.

Just like the confidence that a woman exudes when wearing a fabulous look, Ji has confidence in her abilities. As seen in her Adidas collaboration, as well as in the first two challenges, her designs do not stray from her vision. Whether it is a strong line, a bold fabric choice, or a different approach, she is always pushing forward.

Although this fashion competition shows her runway looks, some of Ji’s recent work highlights the ath-leisure trend. That idea represents how so many people are living right now. More importantly, her looks still add a touch of high fashion. Just because a look is approachable does not mean that it isn’t fashion forward.

One important quality to her work is that she keeps pushing the conversation forward. Never wanting to be boring or status quo, her goal is to keep fashion exciting. No one should ever expect something bland or boring from her.

While she draws her inspiration from various places, the Making the Cut competition has influenced her future outlook. For example, she found many of the designers fascinating, especially Sander. His unique approach and artistic style is quite different than fashion for business’ sake.

Although the final outcome of Making the Cut is yet to be revealed, Ji is and will continue to make fashion that is meaningful and important. That goal should be commended.
