The Vanishing Deep by Astrid Scholte

Astrid Scholte’s Four Dead Queens was a debut that took the YA community by storm, and Scholte promises to do the same with her newest novel,The Vanishing DeepSet on a planet that’s been destroyed by Great Waves, the novel follows Tempe, a 17-year-old girl who’s all too used to living in a world overtaken by water.

In fact, Tempe has become an expert diver in lieu of everything that’s happened, and she uses the skill to search for long-lost treasures. She intends to bring her sister back from the dead with whatever money she can make selling the items. If she can pay, a research lab on Palindromena island can revive her sister for 24 hours — meaning Tempe can finally get the answers she’s been seeking. According to the book’s description:

"“Elysea died keeping a terrible secret, one that has ignited an unquenchable fury in Tempe: Her beloved sister was responsible for the death of their parents. Tempe wants to know why.”"

Of course, Elysea denies any responsibility for their parents’ deaths when she’s revived, and she insists on spending her regained time another way. She convinces her sister to help her escape the research facility, sending the two of them on a journey to uncover what happened to their family — and perhaps fix everything that’s happened between them as a result. Of course, with the research lab employees on their tail and Elysea on a timer, this won’t be easy. But when is anything in a fantasy story like this ever simple?

With all those variables in place, The Vanishing Deep is sure to be a thrilling adventure story. It’s currently available in print, ebook, and audiobook formats, so readers can dive in as soon as their hearts desire.
