Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a new installment in Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunter Chronicles, but Chain of Gold is finally here! Arriving on March 3, Chain of Gold begins a new Shadowhunters trilogy called The Last Hours. The new books will transport readers back to London, following Will and Tessa’s children this time around.

Given how beloved The Infernal Devices are, many of Clare’s fans have been anticipating this new trilogy for a while now. Set in Edwardian England, Chain of Gold opens with James and Lucie Herondale living blissful lives — at least until the Carstairs and Blackthorns arrive in London, along with a vicious plague. James quickly falls for Grace Blackthorn, while Cordelia Carstairs develops feelings for him — meaning we’re in for another love triangle amidst whatever chaos this health crisis brings.

We’re also in for all the usual darkness and adventure that’s par for the course with any Shadowhunter installment. According to the synopsis for Chain of Gold:

"“When disaster strikes the Shadowhunters, James, Cordelia and their friends are plunged into a wild adventure which will reveal dark and incredible powers, and the true cruel price of being a hero…and falling in love.”"

It sounds as though Chain of Gold will be in the vein of Clare’s previous Shadowhunter books, though the plague does put an interesting twist on things. We’ve never seen her characters up against a natural-disaster type of antagonist — one they can’t physically fight against — and it will certainly complicate things for them.
