Everyone was pushing their limits on The Bold Type this week. And things got awkward to say the least. Let’s break it down.

Well kids, we got through an entire episode of The Bold Type with Raven Symoné as a guest star without a single That’s So Raven reference. But we aren’t getting through this entire review without one. Sorry not sorry.

It has to be said: The way Alice Knight (Raven Symoné’s character) acted was so not Raven. (It’ll be my one and only reference, I promise.)

After meeting Sutton at a Scarlet shoot, Alice was impressed by Sutton’s abilities. Naturally, Sutton jumped at the opportunity for a solo styling gig — especially since the person she’d be styling has north of two million followers on Instagram.

She shot her shot — proud of you, diva! — and unfortunately, she missed this time. Alice didn’t have to be a brat about it, but in all fairness, she did feel led on. Sutton didn’t necessarily lie to Alice, she just … didn’t present all the facts. It’s a grey area, right? I vote we stick with Sutton on this one.

The scary part is that Oliver might not. As Katie Stevens (Jane, IRL) pointed out, he called her “Sutton, not Red.”

That can’t mean anything good for Sutton. I, for one, am getting real nervous that this is going to provide an opening to move Sutton to San Fransisco with Richard. She mentions in the promo for next week that she doesn’t want to wait to start their lives together; if she gets fired, then what’s to stop her from following her fiancé, who’s clearly very happy with his new digs?

And in that vein, did anyone else get a chill right down their spine when Jacqueline’s friend mentioned how they were inseparable back in their day, and now barely interact? That better not be the future of our OT3.

Hopefully, Jane and Kat would stop her. Much like Sutton and Kat got nervous that Jane was leaving Scarlet again. Thankfully, she is not — she’s made a much bigger decision.

Continuing with the BRCA storyline, Jane spent most of the episode avoiding responsibilities after finding a lump in her breast during a self-examination. The good news is, it was just a benign cyst, and Jane’s totally fine. Still, it sparked the “Carpe Diem” side of Tiny Jane, leading to an adorable date day with Ryan. Unlike her trip to Sutton’s hometown, Jane was sober while avoiding her thoughts this time, and sadly, there was no Natalie Imbruglia karaoke.

While we’re hovering here though — seriously, writers room, where are we at with a Bold Type musical episode?

To finish off the day, Jane has her 30 Under 30 interview with Forbes, during which she realizes it only meant so much to her because she didn’t see herself making it much past age 30. Her mom didn’t, and knowing she has the BRCA mutation, Jane’s subconsciously been living with an expiration date in her mind.

And that brings us to the biggest shock of the night: Jane’s going to have a double mastectomy. This is a HUGE storyline for The Bold Type to cover, and I can’t wait to see how they do it. You got this, Tiny Jane!

Now let’s talk about the second biggest shock of the night. Since when is Adena so … cruel? I struggle to use that word but it’s really the best one to describe how she treated Kat this week. We waited six episodes for Adena to come back and be bitter?

Now, in fairness, her explanation to Kat was valid. After hearing that Kat’s most recent sexcapades have been with a man, Adena feels hurt, worrying that her relationship with Kat was “just a phase.” That fear would cut deep.

But to make Kat feel less than, especially when their entire relationship was about Adena helping Kat find who she really was? It all just felt off. The single upside of it was that it brought about so many Kat/Oliver (Koliver? Olikat?) scenes. It’s just so nice to see him mentor someone that’s not Sutton, because it requires him to impart different pearls of wisdom.

So, whether the next episode is a Jane/Oliver matchup, or maybe even a Ryan/Oliver interaction — a girl can dream, leave me alone — more of Wise Oliver please!
