If you thought The Bold Type was only going to put the V back in V-Day, well, you don’t really know The Bold Type. Here’s what went down this week.

This week was all about vaginas and vagendas on The Bold Type, but not necessarily in the way you might expect. Strap on in kids, let’s talk about some things.

Arguably the most surprising aspect of the episode was that Sage wasn’t the one to initiate the strap-on conversation with Kat, Jane, and Sutton. (More on that in a minute.)

No, this week, Sage had her hands full with Alex and making sure he asked out the mystery woman they encounter at the coffee cart.

Can we just take another moment and thank the writers for just how much Sage and Alex we’re getting this season? Played by Stephanie Costa and Matt Ward, respectively, the two are just plain fun to watch, especially together.

Thankfully, the mystery woman’s identity isn’t a mystery for long. Her name is Alicia Golden, and she’s a rockstar surgeon, who’s going to be the keynote speaker at Scarlet’s upcoming wellness seminar. She’s funny, smart, successful, rich ,and influential, and because of all of this … Alex doesn’t feel he can date her.

It’s admittedly disappointing, seeing that, for all of Alex’s talk about how Sutton was imagining a divide between her and Richard, he can’t walk the walk — something she, Kat, and Jane rightfully call him out on.

I want to feel bad for him, I do. Alex has had his fair share of reality checks on the show, and he’s well-intentioned. But at the same time, it’s refreshing to see him consistently learning and being made to be better.

Through their talk with Alex, Kat also has a realization. “To Peg Or Not To Peg” was the title of this week’s episode, and after much deliberation, it’s this moment that makes Kat decide that she will indeed peg Cody. Yes, hot bartender from last week has a name, and he’s British. He’s also into mixing things up in the bedroom, which is how Kat’s strap-on adventure truly began.

Kat realized that, though she may be a “boss in the boardroom, bottom in the bedroom” — y’all, the writing this season! — she was only uncomfortable with the idea of being dominant because women are generally expected to be more demure in the bedroom.

It was a big night for Kat because, while in said bedroom, she had another realization: Kat Edison is bisexual — she thinks. Really, it’s not about labels. It’s about owning her space, and naturally, Jane and Sutton are wholly supportive.

Unfortunately, Jane had some problems in her “space” this week. After visiting a Sabrina George spa and getting a “vajay-cial,” Jane’s hit by a rough yeast infection. By the time the wellness seminar rolls around, she can barely sit down. She makes it through the hour though, before Sabrina George finally sets her off.

Quick thing: This woman’s name being Sabrina George, plus the women of the audience standing up to reveal their vagina stories was for sure meant to be a Mean Girls reference, right?

Anyway, between Sabrina’s reluctance to even say the word “vagina” and her either unwittingly or knowingly harmful procedures, Jane starts on her “vagenda.” (Seriously, the writing this season is prime). Jane’s vagenda to tell women the truth and keep an open dialogue impresses everyone, including Jacqueline.

Sadly, there’s one V-word that didn’t come up for Jane this week: vertical. When Jacqueline pulls Jane into her office, it’s simply to congratulate her, and let Jane know that she is a contender for Forbes‘ “30 Under 30 List.” It feels a bit similar to Kara Danvers winning a Pulitzer on Supergirl, so we’ll treat it the same way. It’s weird, but we love it.

What we don’t love is Richard’s judgmental mother. Granted, being an influencer is a weird job. There’s no real good way to explain it. But Sutton’s doing her best, and finding her groove really quickly. After all, she’s already got her first sponsor! Beer at the Suttard wedding is covered.

The good news is, Mama Hunter sees the light fairly quick. At the end of the day, she loves Sutton and is excited to welcome her to the family. We love to see it.

We’d have loved to see Sam Page return for this episode more, but it’s fine…for now. At least we get Adena back next week!
